I am completely unable to accomplish office politics and definite limit my time with other people for the reasons listed above. I am "hidden" far away from from management as possible (in a different building from the rest of my department.) I work for a large company who has been hit hard in the recent economic down turn.

Winning is usually accomplished by placing the ball where your opponent isn't located: either you put the ball there yourself or you pass your team-mate so they can put the ball there. Looking back I realize it was the one thing in my life that I could control, accomplish something, make progress, etc. A year or so ago I got totally addicted to playing games on my Nintendo DS (I am in my 50's so that itself seems strange – not being 50, but playing video games!). I think it saved me from a total downward spiral!
