The simple answer is that you won't find ANY good STEM companies with a 50% female workforce because any good STEM companies (those that have success – which gives the company flexibility to attempt innovative approaches to employee management) will be hiring on the basis of best candidate. I've used it to help me manage my subconscious mind's attitudes and beliefs, and I've made a lot of progress with it. I like the way you managed the 'bottleneck" by simply taking positive action and converting the porch into an office. It doesn't matter where you put the sofa. You can still sit on it.
When the farmer lived alone, it was so hard for the babies to stay alive that it was a sort of Malthusian society where, by the end of the winter, he was always down to a manageable population of five or six. I am "hidden" far away from from management as possible (in a different building from the rest of my department.) On a related topic, I feel that so many times in the business world, particularly for women who hold upper management positions (read: my bosses), they expect you to make a choice that is either family or career. But at this point, I find I'm happier cooking for everyone than managing them. One of our founders is still around and even though he has a lot of energy and passion, he's not so good at managing people and running a department in the company.
