Companies like Google have very flexible environments and pretty moderate hours, particularly for engineers, but are about 75% male (and 85 – 90% for engineers).
So, FriendFeed was very very small, but Facebook bought them for what the engineering team learned how to do. And probably most of you out there kind of know this already, but what I think was new in this conversation recently is that I think it was Mark Zuckerberg first who basically said, we want you as a middle manager to either go back to building and become an individual contributor because you’ve been a great engineer before.
