I want to be more diligent about finding a mentor to help me grow, outside of my supervisor. We meet many in our lives that can become our coaches or mentors, for longer or shorter periods of time. Teachers like Hilary in a prior comment and engineers (like me) are (or were at some time) able to find jobs and happiness in small towns or large cities across the entire U.S. And, like all millenniel quirks in the workplace, its hard to understand motivations when they are drastically different than our own. I think I agree.
And each of your break-ups has been motivated by fear of this growth and change, rather than by nastiness or gossip. Many are engineers. We play hide and seek with our own motives.
