My parents specifically emphasized the obvious “hard work goes a long way” mantra as they reminisced about how their own hard work had gotten them various accolades and rewards that are now seated on the living room mantle, along with mine of course! Q: What have I seen/heard in over 100 hours of peer coaching, mentor coaching, and observe coaching that has been most transformative? I believe coaching is a gifted tool to support more people to learn about themselves, understand their motivations and reach greater awareness. I'm starting to see posts that seem to suggest that motivation should be all stick, no carrot. By doing so you can motivate to produce even superb results. And mine certainly deserves some. A vague compliment tells you nothing; a specific one tells you what to do more of. The big note I need for myself now?
People think their work situation is so complicated and I have to understand all the motivators. You needn't feel you're walking through a minefield at night, fearful of stepping on a mine. Be sure about your motives though. And yes, I would bring a man flowers, but never to 'buy him' - my motives are and have always been to bring a smile to the receiving person's face, something that will make THEM feel happy/happier. I hope yours works better than mine did! Would a live plant be better?
And sure, your alienation and that frustrating loss of direction and motivation hurts just as much physical pain does, and gets in the way of better intentions. I do it for mine, too.
